Delve into Reefton’s golden heritage by visiting the gold-bearing quartz reefs, explore historic buildings from the 1800’s, watch a working stamper battery ram the earth to extract gold. The people of Reefton are passionate about celebrating our pioneers and understanding our 150+-year history – and we won’t miss an opportunity to share this with anyone!
You can spend the day learning about how miners lived and worked in the days of yore. A stroll through the local museums, historic sites and memorabilia and relic collections would give you a good idea of why we’re so proud of our past and where Reefton is headed in the future.
You can also simply enjoy the grandeur of nature with New Zealand’s largest conservation park, Victoria Conservation Park covering an area of 180,000 hectares of forest. Explore Lewis Pass National Reserve which has a nature walk that leads you through an alpine wetland with stunning views of Gloriana Peak and the Spenser Mountains or enter the beech forest and tramp to the open tussock tops.
No matter your travel taste or style, there’s always something for you to do in Reefton.
