Activities & Attractions: You're Never Short of Things to Do in Reefton

There's much to see and do in Reefton. Sit back and enjoy the inspiring natural landscape. Dip your toes in history and heritage or dive right in for a day of adventure.

Let our little town surprise you with everything we have on offer such as relaxed walks and challenging hikes, adrenaline-pumping mountain bike adventures, kayaking and rafting tours, a day in the outdoors fishing and hunting or enjoy the novelty of gold panning.

We have a range of activities suitable for all ages. Experience the West Coast in all its glory – whether you’re in the powerful river or you’re traversing the unique terrain by bike or by tramping. We have experienced guides who can help you truly enjoy your activity of choice.

Delve into Reefton’s golden heritage by visiting the gold-bearing quartz reefs, explore historic buildings from the 1800’s, watch a working stamper battery ram the earth to extract gold. The people of Reefton are passionate about celebrating our pioneers and understanding our 150-year history – and we won’t miss an opportunity to share this with anyone!

You can spend the day learning about how miners lived and worked in the days of yore. A stroll through the local museums, historic sites and memorabilia and relic collections would give you a good idea of why we’re so proud of our past and where Reefton is headed in the future.

You can also simply enjoy the grandeur of nature with New Zealand’s largest conservation park, Victoria Conservation Park covering an area of 180,000 hectares of forest. Explore Lewis Pass National Reserve which has a nature walk that leads you through an alpine wetland with stunning views of Gloriana Peak and the Spenser Mountains or enter the beech forest and tramp to the open tussock tops.

No matter your travel taste or style, there’s always something for you to do at Reefton.
