Back country tours
Big River Gold Tours takes you on a unique 25km journey into the West Coast beech forests of the Victoria Conservation Park.
Experience first hand how remote our Gold pioneers lived in the former settlement of Big River.
Witness the beauty of our native Ferns, Mosses and Beeches as we travel past the DoC land marks that indicate mine sits along the way. At Big River we explore the Red Shed that houses the boiler and Robey winding equipment that was the lifeblood of the mine.
A short climb takes us up to the Poppet Head with views over the forest.
After lunch we head back with stops to look at more historic areas on the way back to Reefton.
Tours typically 10am - 3pm. $145 per person. Bookings essential by booking directly or through the Reefton i-SITE Visitor Centre.
