Festival of daily events for all ages and interests including guided historic Reefton and Victoria Conservation Park walks, treasure hunts, quiz and video evenings, gold panning, mystery walks and drives, market days, golf tournament, pizza making, helihikes, local artists trail, etc.

JANUARY    
Sat 2 Historic Reefton Walk, 8 pm
    Enjoy a guided walk around Reefton’s heritage precinct.  Take in the town’s history and learn about our buildings dating from the 1870’s.  Includes entry into the Oddfellows Hall, Court House and Reefton’s School of Mines.  To be followed by coffee and nibbles at The Broadway Tearooms & Bakery.  Cost $18 per person, meet at The Broadway Tearooms & Bakery, Broadway.
Sun 3 Learn to Fly Cast with Trevor Johns
    Join Trevor Johns and learn to fly cast beside the tranquil Inangahua River.  An inside venue is available if wet weather persists.  All equipment is supplied.  Places are limited to 4 participants so bookings are essential.  Cost $15 per hour per person.  If you wish to further your skills by fly fishing on the river, fishing licences are available from Reefton Sports.  Meet at the Old Breadshop Backpackers, 155 Buller Rd, Reefton.  To book your lesson today, contact Trevor Johns, phone 03 732 8420.

Mon 4 18 Hole Christmas Tournament, 12.30 pm
    Sponsored by M S Moore and Rosco Contracting, join the Reefton Golf Club in an 18 hole golf tournament.  Tee off 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm.  $20 per head, afternoon tea available.  All post entries, stroke and stableford.  As a bonus, play in both this and the Westport tournament (Sunday 3 January 2010), and win prizes for your combined scores.  Contact Brian Hampton, phone 03 732 8738.

Thurs 7 Reefton 2010 Summer Idol
    First heat.  Five finalists will be picked from each night to go into the Grand Final on Saturday 9 January.  Don’t leave it till the last heat – you may miss out!  First prize $300 plus sponsored prizes plus the title of Reefton 2010 Summer Idol – runners up prizes too.  No entry fee – entrants must be over 18 years old and entries forwarded to The Arms Hotel two days prior.  Select two songs for the heats and a different song for the final.  Judged on four categories – song choice; stage appearance; presentation of song; crowd response.  The Arms Hotel, Buller Rd, phone 03 732 8895 or email the.arms@xtra.co.nz

Reefton Inangahua A & P Show

Celebrating 100 years since the first show was held.  This year’s show will host the West Coast district finals of the Young Farmer of the Year competition; the Junior Young Farmer of Reefton; the usual shearing events and an unofficial test between Wales and the West Coast as well as the shearers versus the choppers; the usual chopping events plus a test between the Australian and New Zealand vets; the return of the trial bikes; a performance from the agility dogs; a fashion show presented by Deanes Wearing Apparel; the usual hack, pony and miniature horse events; coal shovelling; handcraft, flower, vegetable, photography, art and pet sections; a display of vintage tractors and stationary machinery; army vehicles and memorabilia; live music, trade displays, the Grand Parade let by the Westport RSA Highland Pipe Band and the usual sideshows, candyfloss, hotdogs, ferris wheel and other rides. The Kokatahi Band will be performing during the day and the Karate club will be giving a demonstration as well. A full, varied and fun day out for the whole family.  Programmes are available on the day and from local businesses prior. Starting at 8:30am. Reefton Trots

   

Reefton Trotting Club’s annual one-day race meeting at the Reefton Racecourse.  A fun-filled day for the whole family!  There’s the “Reefton Dash” – a traditional 120-yard footrace with free entry and prize money, plus there’s always something for the children.  Become a member of the club (absolutely free to do so!) and participate in draws between races for free race bets.  Members may also use the upstairs facilities in the Sports Complex building adjacent to the birdcage, including the members’ bar and full betting facilities.  Contact Tony Thomas, phone 03 732 8231.
